Golden Years Homestead offers the right place to live at the right time in life.
An assortment of housing-styles allows residents to choose the retirement living that is right for them. Housing-styles include independent living Villa apartments, Garden apartments and High-Rise Building apartments, as well as a 24 hours-a-day, seven days-per-week nursing-care facility. Golden Years Homestead understands that a change in a resident's needed care is ever-present; thus, the housing policy makes it possible to transfer to and from apartments and the nursing-care facility, pending a written request.
Golden Years Homestead also combines accessibility with privacy. Located on the northeast side of Fort Wayne, Golden Years is five-minutes from multiple shopping complexes, doctor offices, recreational facilities and interstate 469. Yet, the hustle and bustle of everyday life does not permeate the quiet, home setting of the facilities. Golden Years Homestead is tucked away on 24 acres of land by large hardwoods and pines, as well as quiet neighborhoods.
Independent Living
Villa Apartments
The Villa apartments built in late 1997 are located to the east, across the street from the high rise building, giving it a New Haven address rather than Fort Wayne. The one-story villas with vaulted ceilings provide a spacious, living environment. They come in one and two bedroom units (765 sq. feet and 980 sq. feet), with a private three-seasons front porch. Thirty-eight villas are available, along with 31 garage spaces, which are an additional rental fee. Residents of the villa apartments say that, "being on the ground floor makes us feel like we're in a house. It's not enclosed, so it feels very homey." Other noteworthy amenities are fully equipped kitchen appliances, including a range, refrigerator, dishwasher and disposal, as well as hook-ups for an electric washer and dryer.
Garden Apartments
The Garden apartments built between 1979 and 1984 surround the high rise building, giving a feeling of independence and accessibility. These one-story, regularly remodeled apartments offer a variety of floor plans: two bedroom, one bedroom and studio (407 sq. feet to 833 sq. feet). The apartments are attached with a three-seasons front porch and coin laundry machines, which are shared by an apartment unit. Forty-six Garden apartments are available, along with 18 garages, which are an additional rental fee. The Garden apartments also contain an intercom system, which connects directly to the nurses' station in the high rise building. "Being connected with the nursing station is comforting," states the residents. This emergency call button not only acts as a safety measure, but also as an information resource providing reminders about available activities, weather conditions and other pertinent messages. Another attribute to the Garden apartments is the ability to have a small garden.
High-Rise Building Apartments
The High-Rise Building apartments were an addition to the original, nursing-care building in 1986. These apartments are part of a three-story building and are accessed through the high rise building entrance. With neighbors across the hall and next door, the High-Rise Building apartments offer a community environment and direct access to all Golden Years Homestead services. "You just couldn't ask for a much better place." High-Rise Building apartments include both one and two bedroom apartments (555 sq. feet and 784 sq. feet). They come furnished with a refrigerator, range, and garbage disposal, as well as drapery rods and sheers. The high rise apartments also have weekly housekeeping and an emergency call system, which also gives information regarding activities and pertinent messages.
Nursing Facility
The Nursing Facility contains 105 comprehensive care beds. Residents can choose between private and semi-private rooms and restrooms. Sixty-one of the 105 beds are medical, and the remaining 44 are secure care. Secure Care has been designed with the special needs of Alzheimer's residents in mind. With the desire to meet the particular needs of Alzheimer's residents, separate early stage and middle-late stage units have been developed. The nursing facility is dedicated to providing 24-hour nursing care and supervision, three balanced meals, housekeeping, personal laundry and linen services, a therapeutic activity program, as well as other supportive services. Golden Years is honest and forthright. No corners are cut. We are here to make life better for our residents.
